With comparison being one of the major topics in the novel, the character of genus Atticus Finch allows his children, Scout and Jem, to call him by his first name as a sign of esteem towards them.

Atticus is set to be the ideal father and the man of integrity and justice; therefore, he believes his children as well as everyone else are equal to him careless(predicate) of their age, race or authority.
