Melina Marchetta

The melodramatic main character, Josephine Alibrandi, of the novel Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta shows the all-important(a) idea of multiculturalism, which is explored by the resentment Josie has of her Italian subt permity. She struggles with her stopping point end-to-end the text and is confused whether she is an Australian, Italian or simply an in- among. As Josie learns to strike her culture, she can be emancipated, greatly contri saveing to her voyage of self-disco genuinely. This idea showed importance to me through the exploration of Josies emancipation, prodigious events in the text that impact on the perception of her culture as well as relationships and what people teach her throughout the text.

Josie perception of her culture sorts throughout the text as she realises her culture is non such a bad thing and learns to accept it. At the beginning of the novel and being a second-generation Australian but having strong Italian roots, Josie feels like an in-between, trapped between her familys Italian culture and the Australian culture of her peers. Josie believes that course from this confusion will lead to her emancipation, quoting, Ill run nonpareil day. Run for my life. To be free and think for myself. Not as an Australian and not as an Italian and not as an in-between. Ill run to be emancipated.
