In at once’s society, we look at our cruel justice governance and see only the problems. However, the best solution that has been implemented so far is to hand down harsher sentences for crimes committed. Sadly, this is not only having positive effects, but proscribe ones as well. The positive effects will out weigh the negative effects in many people’s eyes. One of these positive effects would be keeping the criminal off the street for a time-consuming period of time than usual. By keeping this criminal locked up for longer, we, as a society, will feel safer well-read where they are and that they cannot ache to us. Another positive effect would be in hopes that the criminal will learn their lesson from receiving a harsher punishment. Lastly, the executable positive effect of a tougher sentence is that it will contract an example for others that are thinking of committing a similar crime. By seeing the harsh punishment put into effect on someone from their neighborhood, state, or country being punished to the uttermost extent of the law, it is hopeful many will turn onward from the idea of doing the same.
Unfortunately, for every positive effect, their must be a negative effect. The negative effects out there would be quite varying. However, if you look at the positive effects and understand the opposite theory, you would be close. First, the negative impact of keeping a person locked up for longer to enact a harsher punishment would be that the criminal would have a higher jeopardize of becoming institutionalized. This would make it harder for the criminal to cope with the changes in the instauration upon their release. Secondly, it seems that locking up a criminal up longer might teach them a lesson, but that is not what we are shooting for.
