My name is and I am a Puerto Rican. My mom and pa are both from Puerto Rico. I was born in Miami, Florida in 1978. I love my Spanish heritage and my culture. Since I was not raised in Puerto Rico, I felt like I did not truly know my background. I knew two fearsome parents raised me but I had no idea what they and their ancestors had through to come to America. I decided to research my background and heritage. Migration to the United States began during World War II when the United States government necessitateed soldiers and workers for the war. In March 1917, sexual congress passed the Jones Act, which made the Puerto Rican people United States citizens. Now, with Puerto Rican men being citizens, they could be drafted in the United States army to fight. There was a scarcity of workers in the United States to construct the ships and armaments. Therefore, the federal government boost and recruited Puerto Ricans for that purpose. The United States had just begun limiting the number of foreigners allowed into the country so Puerto Ricans were considered the most feasible source of labor. By 1930, East Harlem and Brooklyn were the largest and lift out known for Puerto Rican communities.

At the end of World War II, United States companies once again began looking to Puerto Rico for cheap labor. Puerto Rican migrants confront social, educational, housing, and employment discrimination. They also confronted difficulties due to language differences. Thousands of Puerto Rican workers, especially the women pulverisation workers, were paid lower wages than those to white workers. Due to the need for labor workers, the government increased the average yearly migration of Puerto Ricans. During the old age 1930-1940, 1,800 Puerto Ricans were migrated.
